Hello. I’m Romulus.
I was only eleven when I became Emperor of Rome. Sounds amazing right? What a life… being the ruler of the mighty Roman empire at the age of only eleven!
Imagine the possibilities…
Well to be honest, it wasn’t quite as incredible as it might seem.
Being Emperor can be… well if I’m totally honest… it can be a bit boring. Some days all I want to do is go, run around and play. But there’s always Emperor stuff to do. Like sitting in on boring meetings, listening to politicians drone on with dull speeches and signing things.
Always signing things.
I must have written my name five thousand time since I became Emperor. And half… no…. let me be honest… most of the time I don’t know what I’m signing.
It could be a tax law, a request for the African colonies to send us some more pigmy elephants or a death sentence for some poor fulla I’ve never met.
And if I’m not doing boring Emperor stuff then my father makes me spend hours with my tutor. Apparently learning to speak Greek is important, and learning math, and science, and history, and military tactics (okay well that one is kind of fun) are all things that are vitally important for me to do.
It’s just exhausting.
Sometimes I wish I could just be a normal boy again. And leave ruling the Empire for someone else to do. But then I chastise myself.
Alexander the Great wouldn’t whinge like that. He was only a teenager when he took the throne. And he conquered most of the world.
Alexander is my hero. I’m hoping people will remember me one day like they remember Alexander – as a great and brave leader who everyone loved.
That’s not too ambitious, is it?
I didn’t think so.
But then in the summer of 476 AD… everything got tipped upside down.
What happened?Well you’ll have to read Partners in Time Meet A Boy Called Romulus to find out.
Trust me – it has my personal recommendation. And if you can’t take the word of a Roman Emperor then who can you trust?
Out everywhere – November 27th 2024.
